Sydney jockey Glyn Schofield has picked up the ride on top fancy No Looking Back in the $1m Gold Coast Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast.
Original jockey Blake Shinn has been stood down from riding after being taken to hospital suffering from dehydration at the Gosford Gold Cup meeting yesterday.
Shinn rode Cathy Lady to win the Listed $100,000 Gosford RSL Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in a tight finish and later collapsed in the stewards’ room.
Shinn was immediately stood down from riding for the remainder of the Gosford meeting and will have to have a full medical clearance before he is allowed to resume riding.
“He’s got to have some tests and they can’t get them done before the weekend,” Shinn’s manager Bryan Haskins said.
Shinn had originally secured the ride on the Gai Waterhouse trained No Looking Back in the 3yo Guineas when stable rider Tommy Berry decided to stick with last year’s $2m BMW Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Driefontein.
Waterhouse was lucky to secure the services of a top class jockey at this late stage with Schofield having missed out on gaining a ride in the both the two year old and three year old Magic Millions races.
Schofield will still have a relatively quiet day with only two other mounts, the Nick Olive trainer Capital Commander in the $164,000 R. M. Williams Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) and Whisperossa in the $91,000 Sky Racing World Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (1200m).
No Looking Back is challenging local three year old Sizzling for favouritism in the Guineas after winning first up in the Listed $100,000 Carrington Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on January 1.
Connections are hoping for better luck than last year when No Looking Back was first past the post in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic but was relegated to second in the stewards’ room after Berry on stablemate Driefontein successfully protested after receiving interference over the final fifty metres.
The Kelso Wood trained Sizzling is clinging onto favouritism after coming up with the outside barrier in the sixteen horse field and is currently $4.80 with Driefontein and No Looking Back hovering around the $5 mark.
New riders will have to be found to replace Shinn on Giant Crusher (R1), Master Avatar (R2), Cuddlesome (R3), Leealan (R4) and Gentle Giant (R8).
