Lindsay Park wrapped up a great day at Caulfield today with Girl Guide recording the fourth win for the stable in the Group 3 $150,000 Sportingbet Sprint Series Heat 2 Stakes (1200m).
Girl Guide ($6.50) was able to get the last stride in to gain the judge’s decision over the Peter Moody trained A Time For Julia ($7) with Shamal Wind ($6.50) filling third spot in a blanket finish in the Sprint Series Heat 2 Stakes, formally known as the How Now Stakes.
The heavy backed favourite Samaready ($2.80) disappointed again and after travelling in fourth and fifth spot during the run, faded in the straight to wind up in ninth position.
The resurgence of Lindsay Park trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig kicked off early in the day with Firehouse Rock taking out the $80,000 The Inglis Ready2Race Sale Bonus (1700) followed by Fast ’N’ Rocking winning the $80,000 Alannah Hill Plate (1100m).
Then Star Fashion proved too good for the mares in the $80,000 Dalziel Racing Tile Importer Handicap (1400m).
Girl Guide is the half-sister to Gregers who Hayes and Dabernig prepared to win the Group 3 $150,000 Sportingbet Sprint Series Heat 1 Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 30 also beating A Time For Julia.
“That is very important to that filly. She is Gregers’ sister who picked up black type, beat a great field and did it the hard way,” Hayes said.
“They could easily meet in the final, I think A Time For Julia will be pleased not to see them.”
“We raced three wide without cover and tacked all the way down the straight, it was a very very good tough win.”
“It has certainly been a very good day and with an ounce of luck it could have been a freaky day.”
Hayes also saddled up Spillway in the Group 3 $150,000 Jack London Naturalism Stakes (2000m) who was sent of the short priced favourite but had no luck in the straight with Damien Oliver still looking for a run.
And $51 chance Crackerjack King ran a mighty race to finish third to Foreteller in the Group 1 $400,000 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m).
