Godolphin’s smart filly Ghisoni was out of luck at the barrier draw for the Group 3 $150,000 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Ghisoni has drawn barrier ten in the field of eleven fillies and mares with James McDonald booked to ride again.
Trainer John O’Shea was toying with the idea of running Ghisoni in the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) but in the end opted to keep her against her own sex.
“She has been a filly we have been extremely patient with,” O’Shea said.
“She’s just starting to hit her straps and if we look after her we’re going to have a really nice older mare next season in races up to about 1400m.
“Her last two starts just haven’t gone how we wanted them to.
“Had we won the Arrowfield (in which she was unlucky) we would have had good cause to run in the 10,000.
“At the moment it’s all about seasoning her for later on. For a Group 1 weight-for-age race you want to be well and truly seasoned.”
Ghisoni will be having he first run since finishing fifth to Japonisme in the Group 2 $500,000 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m) at Randwick on the second day of ‘The Championships’ on April 9.
2014 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus has a good first up record with two wins and two placings from five attempts and the Chris Waller trained mare will be having her first start since running third to Zanbagh in the Group 2 $175,000 Ascend Sales Trophies Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 26.
Amicus has drawn nicely at barrier five with Blake Shinn having his second ride on the Fastnet Rock mare, their other pairing resulted in a fifth to Politeness in the Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington during the 2015 Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Local hopes Traveston Girl has Tegan Harrison back in the saddle but has drawn wide again at barrier eleven after drawing wide at the Gold Coast when tenth to Eloping in the Listed $150,000 Better Than Ready Silk Stocking (1200m) on May 7.
Canberra trained mare Just A Blur has the services of Michael Cahill and has drawn just worse than midfield at barrier seven.
