Freedman who trains in partnership with his brother Anthony these days, trained his fifth winner in the Melbourne Cup when the great Makybe Diva made it a hat trick of wins in Australia’s greatest race in 2005.

Makybe Diva also won the 2004 Melbourne Cup for Freedman and his other winners in the great race were Doriemus (1995), Subzero (1992) and Tawrrific (1989)

Freedman has been building up Our Ivanhowe credentials for the tough two miler and is giving the German import a great chance of adding another Melbourne Cup trophy to his cabinet.

Our Ivanhowe has been placed at his last two starts with a second to Let’s Make A Deal in the Group 3 $300,000 The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington on October 4 followed by a solid third behind Mongolian Khan and Trip To Paris in the Group 1 $3m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17.

“I don’t think I’ve had one for ten years,” Freedman said.

“I am really happy with him (Our Ivanhowe). He is probably a little bit of a forgotten horse. I always thought if you run a place in the Caulfield Cup and you had improvement left you go pretty good.”

“So I think he will go pretty good.”

Our Ivanhowe is rated as a $17 chance for the Melbourne Cup with Ladbrokes.com.au who have the Japanese stayer Fame Game as the $3.80 favourite.

Caulfield Cup runner up Trip To Paris is next in the betting at $8 ahead of the Chris Waller trained Preferment at $10.
