Flippant was found with cardiac arrhythmia following her poor effort in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 17, but she put the writing on the wall for her Wyong Magic Millions Stakes with an impressive barrier trial at Warwick Farm on December 4.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy elected to settle Flippant just behind the speed in the early stages of the race, but he was able to find cover for the talented filly and she responded well when asked for an extra effort in the straight to run past Murt The Flirt and record an impressive victory.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden was thrilled to see Flippant return to winning form following her flop in the Brian Crowley Stakes and he confirmed that she will now likely contest the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast.

“It was just totally out of character for her – she has been super honest in every start she has had and we found that problem with her straight afterwards,” Snowden said.

“She had two trials and in the second trial Hugh gave her a real click up and the real Flippant was in that trial.

“She brought that form her today and it was a brilliant win.

“She is a lovely filly, she is a lovely type and she has a great pedigree.

“The Magic Millions is going to be seriously thought about now and I think that it is perfect for her.

“Over seven furlongs she relaxes really well and she showed a great turn-of-foot, but was still strong at the end.”

McEvoy had not ridden Flippant since she missed the placings at Warwick Farm in March earlier this year, but he timed his ride perfectly on the Hinchinbrook filly in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes.

The talented hoop admitted that he probably could have had Flippant closer to the rail, but he said he was happy to following Murt The Flirt into the race and let the filly finish over the top of her rival.

“I couldn’t have slotted back in closer to the rail, but I was following Murt The Flirt and I was three deep with some cover and right ready to pounce,” McEvoy said.

“There was good speed on and she did it really well.

“I was pretty happy with the feel that she gave me and she will go to the Gold Coast now and she will have every chance up there.”

Murt The Flirt was well-backed in the lead-up to the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes and he produced a typically honest effort to finish third, while Egyptian Symbol made up plenty of ground from the tail of the field to finish second.
