Fame Game has been a solid $4 Melbourne Cup favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au following his eye catching run for sixth to Mongolian Khan in the Group 1 $3m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17 when ridden by Hong Kong based Zac Purton.

Masato Tamaya, assistant to trainer Yoshitada Munakata, believes that Fame Game has improved since his Caulfield Cup run and has recovered in fine style.

“The best thing I know is his action,” Tamaya told AAP.

“Usually he gets a bit stiff and tired after the race but he wasn’t even tired after the Caulfield Cup run.

“His action is really nice and smooth.”

Fame Game’s strong finish from last on the corner came under the scrutiny of Racing Victoria stewards who questions Purton and connections into the six year olds racing tactics.

But Tamaya said that was Fame Games racing patter and he would be ridden the way in the Melbourne Cup.

“If he is midfield, he goes through the field,” Tamaya said.

“That’s how he races. He’s not a sweeper.”

“We are surprised at the odds but at the same time the odds have nothing to do with the racing.”

“We have to leave it up to the jockey and the horse at the end of the day.”

Fame Game had solid form back home in Japan and was a winner over 3400m three starts back in the Group 3 US693,000 Diamond Stakes at Tokyo on February 21 before finishing second to Gold Ship in the Group 1 US$2.5m Tenno Sho Spring (3200m) at Kyoto on May 3.
