Souchez was doing his best work at the end of the 1200m when beaten a head and a head when third behind Winning Rupert and Attention in the Group 2 $175,000 Moet & Chandon Champagne Classic at Doomben on May 14.

“The best part of his race last time was the last bit, he’s trained on well since that run and should get the chance to settle nice and close from a good gate,” trainer John O’Shea said.

Number one stable rider James McDonald should be able give Souchez the run of the race from barrier two in the fourteen horse field.

Souchez has won two of his four race starts and was victorious on debut in a 1100m two year old Plate at Rosehill in December last year.

The Lonhro colt who carries the Godolphin royal blue colours was up amongst the best two year olds during the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a third to Good Standing in the Group 2 $175,000 Pro-Ride Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 27 followed by a win in the Group 2 $175,000 Cafe Culture + Insitu Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill a fortnight later.

Souchez has been installed the $3 favourite for the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Attention and Bjorn Baker’s Cadogan who share the second line of betting at $7.

Cadogan is stepping up in class after scoring a one and three quarter lengths win in a 1400m mid-week two year old Handicap at Randwick on May 18 and also has to overcome the outside barrier in the fourteen horse field.
