Trainer Joe Pride revealed earlier in the week that Ball Of Muscle would take his place in the Caulfield Sprint and the talented galloper has the chance to return to winning form after performing well without winning in three race starts this preparation.

Ball Of Muscle returned to the races with a slightly flat performance in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on September 5, but he was only narrowly denied by Rebel Dane in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Royal Randwick on September 19 before he made his Group 1 debut with a second place finish behind Buffering in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on October 2.

The Moir Stakes is set to be the key lead-up race to the Caulfield Sprint as Headwater and Rain Affair are also set to back-up this weekend after running in the Group 1 sprint.

Headwater made a very slow start to his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign and he produced poor performances in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 15 and ninth in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 12, but he hit the line strongly to finish fourth in the Moir Stakes.

Rain Affair started the Moir Stakes as a 100-1 chance and he could finish no better than 11th, but he was far from disgraced and he finished less than four lengths behind Buffering.

Another three-year-old that is set to contest the Caulfield Sprint this weekend is Peter Moody-trained Kinglike, who was scratched from the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) that will be held at Caulfield this afternoon.

Kinglike stamped himself as a horse to watch when he took out the Danehill Stakes in impressive fashion and he is set to contest the Caulfield Sprint before he takes on Exosphere in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Victoria Derby Day.

One of the most interesting runners in the 2015 Caulfield Sprint field is Robert Smerdon-trained Lumosty, who has not been seen at the races since she finished third behind Srikandi in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 21,

Lumosty showed that she was capable of sprinting well fresh during her winter preparation and she opened as a narrow favourite when betting for the Caulfield Sprint was opened on Monday.

The 2015 Caulfield Sprint field is rounded out by Team Freedman-trained Kuro (barrier seven), Phillip Stokes-trained Éclair Choice (barrier two) and last start winner Last Day (barrier six).
