Godolphin Racing Manager Jason Walsh is confident that Earthquake is ready to show her best form when she returns to the races in the 2014 Furious Stakes at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

Earthquake was set to start her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 23, but Godolphin opted to scratch the Exceed And Excel filly due to concerns about the wet track.

Walsh told Racing Ahead that Earthquake had taken plenty of benefit from another two weeks of trackwork and believes that the three-year-old is ready to start her campaign with a win in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m).

“We had her trained up to go first-up in the Silver Shadow and we elected to leave her on that day because we had the heavy track, so she has had the benefit of another couple of weeks,” Walsh said.

“She had a nice couple of trials in preparation down at Osborne Park and she is certainly forward enough to give her best tomorrow.”

The Royal Randwick track is currently rated a slow seven, but there is more rain expected in Sydney over the next 24 hours and the track could be downgrade before the running of the Furious Stakes.

Godolphin confirmed earlier in the week that Earthquake would take her place in the Furious Stakes field no matter what condition the track is in and Walsh said that the three-year-old needed to start her preparation in order to be fit enough for races like the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 4 and the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield a week later.

“We have still got the Thousand Guineas and Flight Stakes as targets that we would like to head towards and those races are now only a month away,” Walsh said.

“We really need to get going and whilst we would obviously prefer not to run her on heavy ground, she did only very narrowly get beat in the Golden Slipper on a heavy track at Rosehill.

“That can be quiet different to a heavy track at Randwick, but I certainly wouldn’t write her off on the ground by any means.”

Earthquake is currently available at Furious Stakes of $1.75 and she is a clear favourite from Sires Produce Stakes winner Peggy Jean ($5), Earthquake’s stablemate Memorial ($7), the undefeated Winx ($8) and the well-backed Sultry Feeling ($9).
