Diamond Drille was chasing back to back wins in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes after scoring an upset win in 2014, but was always near the tail of the field before only passing a couple of runner to end up in twelfth spot behind her stablemate Amanpour.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse produced Diamond Drille to win at $41 and this year delivered another long priced winner of the Queen Of The Turf Stakes with Amanpour being sent out at the juicy odds of $21.

The Al Maher mare raced in the same blue and red colours carried by 2012 two year old champion Pierro and owner Greg Kolivos said that he would mate his Group 1 winning duo in the coming breeding season this Spring.

“Diamond Drille is very special to our family. We bought her as a yearling the same year as Pierro and she was tough, talented mare that always gave her all,” Kolivos told The Daily Telegraph.

“We can’t wait to see what the two of them produce and we’re also retiring Group 2 winner Forever Loved.”

Diamond Drille had failed to run a place at five runs since winning the 2014 Queen Of The Turf Stakes but looked to be on track with an eye catching third to Plucky Belle in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 14.

But the five year old mare struggled to make any impact when fifteenth to Kermadec on a soft 7 track in the Group 1 $3m The Star 150th Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 6, the first day of ‘The Championships’ before her latest effort on Saturday.

Diamond Drille was a winner of five races from eighteen starts and earned for her connections $975,180 in prizemoney and bonuses.
