Rule The River was an impressive first up winner over Festivity over 1100m at the Canterbury Saturday meeting on November 7 in a BenchMark 78 Handicap making it two wins from four race starts but Cummings is happy to let the Commands mare go back to mid week company for the time being.

“Because she’s drawn close to the rail at Warwick Farm it makes the decision a bit easier to run there,” Cummings told AAP.

“We scratched her off a wide draw last week and Wednesday’s race seems to fit in best for her.”

“I expected her to run well first-up and with Festivity winning impressively at Rosehill since then it makes the Canterbury win look even better.”

Jason Collett was aboard Rule The River last start but Cummings has gone for claiming apprentice Regan Bayliss today.

Bayliss’ 2kg claim will reduce her weight to 56kg and enhance her chances to make it back to back wins from barrier two.

“She’s not huge, she’s got a nice deep girth but with two kilos off her back it probably makes a difference to her chances,” Cummings said.

Rule The River is raced by prominent owner Gerry Harvey and Cummings is very grateful he doesn’t want to push his horses at an early age.

“Gerry’s a very patient owner and it allows us to be patient with her in the stable,” Cummings said.

“While she’s learning she’s pretty comfortable at this sort of trip so there’s no need to test her beyond her limit.”

The lightly raced four year old broke her maiden status at her second race start at Gosford in December 2014 and then ran second in a 1200m BenchMark 72 Handicap for the fillies at Randwick two and half weeks later before being sent out for a decent spell.

Rule The River has been well supported in early betting at Ladbrokes.com.au and has firmed in from $3.30 to be the clear cut favourite at $2.25.

On the second line of betting is the Matthew Dale trained Karakuchi at $7.50 just ahead of Garry Kirkup’s Highly Geared at $8.
