Trainer Gai Waterhouse has revealed that talented filly Cosmic Endeavour will head to Queensland tonight to begin preparations for the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm on June 21.
Cosmic Endeavour started her autumn preparation with a victory in the Irresistible Pools & Spas Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 1 and performed well in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m), Listed Darby Munroe (1200m) and Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 12 before scoring her maiden black type victory in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at the same venue a week later.
The Northern Meteor filly ran home strongly to finish third behind Aerobatics and Plucky Belle in the Group 3 The Darley Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury on May 3 and produced another strong performance to take out the Inglis Guineas (1400m) at Scone last weekend in impressive fashion.
Waterhouse said that Cosmic Endeavour had taken no harm out of her run in the Inglis Guineas and confirmed that the filly will make her Group 1 debut against what should be a strong group of fillies and mares in the Tattersall’s Tiara next month.
“Cosmic Endeavour got the thumbs-up from (trackwork rider) Steve O’Halloran this morning and he said that she has come through the run super.
“She heads on the trail to Queensland and she will depart this evening from my stable.
“She will travel with three other stablemates and she is onwards and upwards this bonny mare.”
Waterhouse is set to have two runners in Brisbane this weekend; with Northern Glory contesting the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1300m) and Driefontein running in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000.
Northern Glory started his 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign with a narrow third place finish behind Sidestep and Bound For Earth in the Darby Munro Stakes and finished fourth behind Politeness and Cosmic Endeavour in the PJ Bell Stakes.
The Northern Meteor filly was narrowly denied a maiden win at Group level by Estonian Princess in the Group 3 Carr Stakes (1400m) and was slightly disappointing a week later in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m), but is still a chance of joining Cosmic Endeavour in the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara field.
Northern Glory is available at 2014 Glenlogan Park Stakes odds of $15; with Srikandi ($2.60) currently a clear favourite from Plucky Belle ($7) and Platinum Rocker ($7.50).
