The connections of Black Caviar have confirmed that the equine superstar will be sent to Darley stallion Exceed And Excel for the 2013 Southern Hemisphere breeding season.
It had been heavily speculated in the last forty-eight that Exceed And Excel had been chosen to be Black Caviar’s first mate but the decision was not confirmed until this evening.
The owners of the champion mare said they were delighted to finally come to a decision after conducting a great deal of research since the mare was retired in April that included consultation with some of Australia’s leading breeding experts.
“There were a number of outstanding stallions that demanded our attention, and we are thrilled that Exceed And Excel will be Nelly’s first mating,” co-owner Phil Wilkie said.
“It has been a very thorough, painstaking but enjoyable process.
“Like all decisions with Black Caviar, we are very honoured and extremely privileged to be the ones in this predicament.
“All going well, we are looking forward to a fit and healthy foal in the spring of 2014.”
The visit from Black Caviar will cap off an amazing year for Exceed And Excel who will be named Champion Australian Sire after his progeny won more than $11 million in prizemoney during the 2012/2013 racing season.
The progeny of Exceed And Excel dominated the juvenile ranks in Australia this season with Overreach (Golden Slipper) and Guelph (Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes) winning the two-year-old Triple Crown between them.
The success of the son of Danehill has not been limited to Australia with Exceed And Excel producing more stakes winners in 2013 than any other stallion in the world.
A number of Australia’s leading sires were on the shortlist with connections indicating that More Than Ready was given serious consideration while Fastnet Rock, Casino Prince and Not A Single Doubt were also in contention.
