Rockhampton galloper Divine City raced to the border for a start in Saturday’s $1m Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) with victory in the $100,000 Gold Coast City Council Handicap (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Divine City jumped from 50th to 19th in the Gold Coast’s Magic Million Guineas order of entry, based on prizemoney, having added $64,000 to her purse.

Overall prizemoney earned by Devine City deceptively puts her in the top 16 which would ensure a start.

However, the breeding bonuses she has earned are dismissed in Guineas assessment dragging her back down into the five added emergencies.

The three-year-old took her record to three wins from seven starts with prizemoney in excess of $110,000 of which $21,000
of bonuses.

The Garnett Taylor-trained galloper could still sneak into the top 16 if horses currently above are withdrawn from the race.

Yesterday Devine City was given no favours when posted three wide with cover throughout Saturday’s race.

The locally trained Leealan led under jockey Glen Colless from Witches Wonder, Mr Favoulous and Skater Dude who was three wide without cover.

Devine City came off the back of Skater Dude on straightening for home as Leealan kicked away from the field.

Leealan shortened stride in the final 100m as Devine City claimed it late as High On Believing flashed home to gain third in front of a bunch field.

Divine City, a daughter of Magic Millions Adelaide Classic winner Ferocity, is the first winner for her dam, the lightly raced Anabaa mare Miss Katy Louise.

Taylor was reluctant to commit Divine City to Magic Million Guineas and will leave the decision up to the owners.

“It’s all up to them,” he said.

“If they want to run and the horse is well then we’ll have a shot.

“We bought her down to get into the Magic Millions Guineas and been down for a few weeks now and had a few unlucky starts.

“Sometimes she can be her own worst enemy.

“She was a little on her toe again today but she is getting better.”

Major part owner Ron Beak paid just $7,000 for Devine City at the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS  Yearling Sale.

Her pedigree includes Group 1 winners Pride of Rosewood, Admiral Lincoln and champion New Zealand filly
Challen.

A brother to Divine City has been entered by vendors Oaklands Stud for 2012 Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale in March .
