A change of riding tactics saw Dinkum Diamond overpower the leaders to take out the Group 3 $115,000 The Janz (1200m) at Morphettville today.

Top Adelaide jockey Claire Lindop had the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas trained two year old at the tail of the field on the home turn before easing her to the middle of the track to collar Beau Jez and Stella Lante who had broke away to fight the race out.

Last start on April 28 Lindop said that the Keep The Faith filly had stirred up and raced fresh at her first run back from a spell and raced on the pace as opposed to today when Lindop was able to get her to settle.

“First up last time she raced a bit fresh and raced wide with no cover. From the wide gate today we had an option to ride her back until the top of the straight but I left myself with a bit of work here, but full credit to Dinkum Diamiond, she’s a lovely little girl,” Lindop said.

Runner up Beau Jez fought back in the straight when headed by Stella Lante and the pair looked to have the race between them before Dinkum Diamond finished hard down the outside to score by a long neck.

Today Group 3 win adds a lot of value to the filly for the future as a brood more and Macdonald was glad to see her win after finishing second at her first run back a spell two weeks ago.

“She didn’t get cover a fortnight ago, she got it today and you could see what she could do,” Macdonald said.

“I had to pull the whip myself,” Macdonald added referring to the fact that Dinkum Diamond was so far back on the home turn and had a lot of ground to make up.
