An ambitious Spring Carnival program could be on the cards for Eagle Farm winner Teronado with the Group 1 $1m BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 12 now on the radar of trainer Bruce Hill.

Teronado had always shown Hill above average ability and the Gold Coast trainer was delighted that the three year old has finally run up to his potential after winning two two-year-old races early in the year.

“I’ve seen him do some amazing things at times,” Hill told The Courier-Mail.

“I always knew he could gallop, but he has to learn how to do it properly.”

Teronado was having his second run back from a spell and was on his best behaviour after he was reluctant to go tho the barriers or be competitive in the early stages of the race at his previous start when fourth at Doomben on July 27.

“He was just really fresh that day,” Hill said.

Winning rider Chris Munce sat Teronado just off the pace and when he eased out in the straight, the three year old exploded to score a three and a half lengths win in the $50,000 JAHM QTIS three year old Handicap (1300m).

Munce was impressed with the effort and agrees with Hill that he has plenty of ability.

“He’s got a lovely big stride and has plenty of raw ability,” Munce said.

“When he learns what it’s all about, he’s going to turn into a very good horse.”

Hill is convinced that the Testa Rossa three year old will develop into a handy middle distance performer, but will try and limit him to 1600m this preparation with the Caulfield Guineas in mind.

“I don’t really want to take him beyond a mile this preparation,” Hill said.

“He’s nominated for the Guineas and it would be nice if he could get to there, but there’s no need to rush him.”

Munce was back in fine form at Eagle Farm on Saturday riding a winning treble.

As well as winning on Teronado, Munce was successful on the Barry Baldwin trained Flying Home in the $50,000 McGrath Estate Agents Class 6 Plate (2200m) and on Divine City for Garnett Taylor in the $45,000 At Margaret’s Anglican Girls School F&M Class 6 Handicap (1200m).
