Jameka is on top of the 2016 Caulfield Cup tips of form expert Daniel O’Sullivan, but he believes that Scottish is the leading international chance in the Group 1 event at Caulfield this afternoon.

Scottish will make his Group 1 debut in the Caulfield Cup, but his form in England this season has been of the highest quality and he won the Listed Steventon Stakes (2017m) at Newbury on July 16 as well as the Group 3 Strensall Stakes (1799m) at York on August 20.

O’Sullivan told Racing Active that Scottish will put himself into the race right on the speed and he is confident that the Teofilo gelding will prove tough to run down in the final stages of the 2016 Caulfield Cup.

“He is right in the race with a chance,” O’Sullivan said.

“He is an on-pace runner, he has 2400 metre form – he was a length and a half second to Highland Reel over 2400, so that is no issue – and he will race somewhere right up there on the speed.

“He has the ability to give a bit of kick, which is always good around Caulfield and then he can battle on quite well.

“I think he is going to be in the race for a long way and it will just be a matter of whether he can hold-off some of the closers.

O’Sullivan also has a high opinion of both Sir Isaac Newton and Exospheric – although he has a question over the temperament of the Lee Freedman-trained import – but he can’t get Articus anywhere near as short as his current 2016 Caulfield Cup odds of $9.

Articus finished fifth in his only previous start at Group 1 level in the Frosser Dallmayr-Preis (2012m) at Munich on July 31 and O’Sullivan believes that the Areion entire’s German form does not justify his short price in Caulfield Cup betting.

“I can’t possibly find him in the race,” O’Sullivan said.

“The quality of his overseas form and his ratings just aren’t there at the moment.

“For him to be so short in the market at the moment is a real surprise to me and it seems based completely on potential.

“There is no objective evidence there to support his price.”

Jameka is currently available at 2016 Caulfield Cup odds of $3.70 with Ladbrokes and she is a clear favourite from Scottish ($7), Real Love ($7), Articus ($9), Sir Isaac Newton ($13), Exospheric ($13) and Sacred Master ($13).
