Golden Slipper winner Capitalist has failed to respond to treatment for a bruised foot and won’t run in the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Racing Victoria posted a tweet today that the Snowden Racing Team had notified them that Capitalist won’t be taking on the older horses at weight for age at the end of the week.

“Capitalist -stable informed Stewards it won’t be contesting the Darley Classic,” Racing Victoria tweeted.

Co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden were forced to scratched Capitalist from the star studded Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) field at Flemington last Saturday when the Written Tycoon colt sustained a stone bruise to his near for foot.

That was only one incident for Capitalist who has had an interrupted Melbourne Spring Carnival campaign and was a late scratching from the Group 1 $1m Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 21 when the track was downgraded to a soft 5 following some afternoon rain.

Capitalist proved to be the best two year old during the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a commanding win in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill but has failed to win at two starts as a three year.

The Written Tycoon colt resumed for a fourth to Star Turn in the Group 3 $150,000 Smithfield RSL Club San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 13 followed by a third to stablemate Russian Revolution in the Group 2 $300,000 The Star Roman Consul (1200m) at Randwick on October 1.

The Darley Classic is shaping up as a great contest down the Flemington straight with Coolmore Stud Stakes quinella Flying Artie and Astern among the nominations along with smart older sprinters Lankan Rupee, Fell Swoop, Malaguerra, Japonisme, Our Boy Malachi and The Quarterback.
