Co-trainer Paul Snowden admits that Capitalist is far from peak fitness, but he is confident that the talented colt will still be forward enough to win the 2015 Wyong Magic Millions Classic this afternoon.

Capitalist stamped himself as a colt to follow when he recorded an impressive win in a barrier trial over 838 metres at Royal Randwick on September 21 and he lived up to the hype to record an impressive victory in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 3.

The son of Written Tycoon showed that he was ready for a return to racing with another outstanding performance in a barrier trial over 900 metres at Rosehill Gardens on December 8 and Snowden had nothing but praise for the juvenile ahead of the Wyong Magic Millions Classic.

“He is a lovely individual and he has trialed really well,” Snowden told Racing Ahead.

“He was as sharp as he was when he won the Breeders Plate.

“Off a tricky draw today he seems to get a similar run behind the speed and hopefully he can continue on his winning way.

“He is nowhere near wound right up yet and this race is definitely going to bring him on, but he is a horse that you don’t have to pound the work into.

“He is an athletic colt and he keeps himself fit.

“We are more than happy with today and hopefully he ticks this box and we look forward to the Gold Coast.”

Capitalist is currently on top of betting markets for the 2016 Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on January 9 and he is on the second line of Golden Slipper betting markets at a quote of $8.

Snowden believes that Capitalist deserves to be considered the benchmark two-year-old in Australia at this stage and he confirmed that the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens was a more likely target for the juvenile than the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 27.

“He has already done it and he is the benchmark of ours,” Snowden said.

“He has the runs on the board at the moment and if he can win as good as how he looks then he is a serious horse.

“We are starting to try and split them up.

“I would think that he would be more of a Golden Slipper horse than a Blue Diamond horse at this stage.”

Capitalist is currently available at 2015 Wyong Magic Millions odds of $1.30 with Ladbrokes and is a dominant favourite from Niccolance ($5.50), Conchita ($10), Magical Milly ($21) and Aghna ($21).
