Doomben 10,000 winning jockey Jim Byrne can score another Brisbane Winter Carnival feature race win if he can get Capital Gain home first in the Group 2 $250,000 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Byrne was at his brilliant best in scoring an all the way win on Redzel in the Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m) at Doomben on May 13.

The Paul Butterworth trained Capital Gain has been knocking on the door with two seconds from his last starts and Byrne takes over the reins from Ryan Plumb.

“Originally we were going to look for an interstate rider but we decided to stick with a local and no one is riding better than Jim,” Butterworth told AAP.

Two starts back Capital Gain ran home from well back in the field to run second to Sires’ Produce Stakes rival Saint Patricks Day in the Listed $100,000 Dalrello Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on April 29 and then finished second to Mishani Bullitt in a $60,000  QTIS 2yo Handicap over 1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on May 14.

“Capital Gain looks like a nice ride and he should handle the distance and the track,” Byrne said.

Capital Gain drew barrier five in the capacity eighteen horse field plus five emergencies and will move in one space if all the reserves fail to gain a start.

The early market order for the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au has Capital Gain well in contention at $8.50 while Group 1 winning Kiwi filly Melody Belle is the current favourite at $4.20.

On the second line of betting at $5 is the Chris Waller trained Tangled who looked good in winning the Group 2 $175,000 Moet Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 13.
