Lindsay Park co-trainer David Hayes is keen to test Sheidel at Group 1 level after the mare scored a gutsy win in the Group 3 $150,000 Cape Grim Beef Steaks (1200m) at Caulfield today.

Winning jockey James McDonald had Sheidel ($2.70 favourite) quickly out of the gates to sit behind the leader Lake Como and once heads were turned for home gain the front and refused to surrender to record a half a length win to rack up an early winning treble for the Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

The Andrew Noblet trained Silent Sedition ($11) ran on well for second with the $71 outsider A Lotta Love also doing her best work at the finish.

David Hayes is now keen to step the five year old mare up to Group 1 company and has selected the Group 1 $1m Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 21 as her likely next start.

“We will hold a nom in the Manikato because she has done everything except a Group 1. She got an inch in the Robert Sangster,” Hayes said.

“We would love to win a Group 1 with her and she probably has to go into the big races now.”

“We will see how she pulls up and make a decision but maybe the Manikato.”

Sheidel has been tested at Group 1 level and was beaten a nose in the Group 1 $400,000 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 7 before running seventh to Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville as fortnight later.

The former Western Australian trained mare has been a great money spinner for new owner Rob Crabtree who is nearing the $1m mark in prizemoney.

“It is really good for Rob Crabtree. It is a filly that he brought from Perth and she looks like a steal,” Hayes said.

“She has been running at the Black Type level for over half of her runs and she is going to be great brood mare.”

The Lindsay Park stable is having a great day at Caulfield and also saddled up Wait For No One to win the Listed $120,000 Debutant Stakes (1000m) and Hear The Chant to win the Group 3 $150,000 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).
