The Peter Moody-trained mare was giving four kilograms to her eight rivals but was clearly a class above, passing the winning post two lengths clear of Hoylonny and Said Com.

Jockey Luke Nolen found a position with cover just behind the leaders early in the race before popping his mount out at the 600m mark where she began to wind up.

The powerful mare responded to Nolen’s call and was the only horse that looked the winner in the straight despite the well-backed Hoylonny fighting hard along the inside.

It was Lights Of Heaven’s first win since the Group 2 Brisbane Cup in June which was part of a successful campaign where she also won the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup and finished second in both the Group 1 Doomben Cup and Group 2 Hollindale Stakes.

Moody said the Zabeel mare could possibly run in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 27 before returning to Queensland to tackle a similar program to last winter.

“She either heads to the Queen Elizabeth or goes straight to Queensland and follows a similar program to last year,” Moody said.

“She’s well suited to those weight-for-age races through Brisbane.

“She’ll probably stare down a similar type path this time around.”

Jockey Luke Nolen was impressed by Lights Of Heaven’s ability to put her competition away despite being at a distinct weight disadvantage.

“She was giving some useful performers a lot of weight under trying conditions and I thought the effort was very, very good,” Nolen said.

“She’s a mare that probably appreciates a little bit of cover.

“We found a bum and she switched off nicely and had the race in her grasp along way from home.”
