Smart Missile will be ridden by Brett Prebble in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes

Brett Prebble has been announced as the new rider for Smart Missile for this weekend’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakesat Caulfield.

The jockey, who is currently riding in Hong Kong, will fly to Melbourne tonight in order to make the rise on the talented three-year-old.

Prebble will replace Glen Boss, who fractured his shoulder after Golden Slipper winning mare Crystal Lily dropped dead during a jump out this morning.

Ironically, Prebble was the jockey who rode Crystal Lily to her 2010 Golden Slipper win.

The jockey’s manager, Glenn Darcy, said Prebble was thrilled to have been given the ride.

“He’s obviously looking forward to riding such a quality horse,” Darcy said.

Smart Missile’s trainer Anthony Cummings told earlier this morning of the incredible interest sparked by the need to replace Glen Boss.

“The list is growing and there are a few there to pick from,” Cummings had said.

“News travels fast, I think the first call came before he hit the ground.”

Prebble will have to work hard to earn a win aboard Smart Missile in tomorrow’s $350,000 Sir Rupert Clarke after the Fastnet Rock colt drew the widest barrier of 17.
