Bossy Good To Go In The New Year

Glen Boss is the notable omission on the list of feature race winners from the 2011 spring carnival.

‘Group 1 Bossy’ as he’s known comes into his own at carnival time and the spring has proved to be a prosperous period for him for many years.

That run was cut short this year though when he fell from Crystal Lilly when she suffered a fatal injury during track work.

He broke his shoulder in multiple places requiring delicate surgery and plenty of metal pins, screws and plates.

That was at the beginning of the carnival and Boss was forced off a string of promising mounts including Smart Missile who he rated as one of the best horses he’s ever ridden.

It’s been a tough few months for him watching on from the sidelines but finally the end is insight for one of the county’s best riders.

“Got some good news, went to see my surgeon yesterday…it’s been all good progress in the last fortnight,” he said.

“Looks like I’m going to be back first week of January.”

Given how serious the injury was it’s a pretty good turnaround for Boss and shows just how committed he has been to rehab.

“With the injury I received it could have been a four, five, six month turnaround,” he said.

He says the last few weeks especially have shown the most improvement.

“There’s been good bone growth, nothing moved,” he said.

“I’m starting to get a lot more strength and a lot more speed back into my arm.

” I think I’ve got about 70 percent range at the moment and that’s improved quickly.

“If you’d asked me two weeks ago I was worried, I probably only had 50 percent.”

Boss says once he’s cleared he’s keen to be racing again almost immediately with potentially only a week of track work to ease him back in.

“I’m going to get myself as fit as I possibly can without being on a horse,” he said.

“I’m going to be cleared back to track work first week of January and I’d like to be back not long after.”
