Hall Of Fame jockey Glen Boss will be the new rider on Sebrina in the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Boss has ridden the Bjorn Baker trained Sebrina on one previous occasion for a third to Slightly Sweet in the Group 3 $150,000 Kari J H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 18 and takes over from apprentice Brodie Loy.
Loy was aboard Sebrina last Saturday at Randwick when an unlucky fourth as favourite to High Midnight in a 2000m BenchMark 73 Handicap on a heavy 10.
After settling at the tail of the field Loy stuck to the fence on the home turn only to be held up behind a line of horses and only got some clear running late in the straight when it was too late to reel in the leaders.
Baker is willing to forget the run and is keen to head to Queensland for the Oaks after securing the service of Boss.
“There is not much we can do about what happened,” Baker told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I think everyone knows she should have won.”
“We are lucky to have a hall of fame jockey in the saddle and I can tell you we haven’t seen the best of her yet.”
Baker was content to give Sebrina her final lead up run for the Queensland Oaks in Sydney and keep the filly at her Warwick Farm stables as long as possible.
“We decided to go this way with her and target the Oaks on one trip, rather than staying up there and we will find out if it was the right move on the weekend,” Baker said.
Sebrina is well up the market order for the Queensland Oaks at Ladbrokes.com.au and is on the third line of betting at $7 behind the Chris Waller trained Winx at $2.45 and last Saturday’s The Roses’ winner Bohemian Lily at $5.50.
Winx showed her class with a last to first win in the Group 3 $125,000 XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on May 16 and that win followed her second to Gust Of Wind in the Group 1 $1m Seven News Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11.
While the Gai Waterhouse trained Bohemian Lily was back in the winner’s list after leading all of the way to win the Group 2 $175,000 URBIS The Roses (2020m) at Doomben last Saturday.
