Boban failed to fire during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and he was sent to the spelling paddock after he missed the placings in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 9, the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30, the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 13 and the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 4  and he looked like he had lost the will to race at the start of his autumn campaign.

Trainer Chris Waller opted to freshen Boban up for the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) in Brisbane on May 23 and the decision paid dividends when the Bernardini gelding stormed home late to record his fourth Group 1 win before he finished a tough second in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) with 58 kilograms on his back at Doomben a fortnight later.

Boban has not been seen at the races since the Stradbroke Handicap, but he trialed well at Rosehill Gardens on August 4 and August 17 and looks set to start the Memsie Stakes as a clear favourite.

Volkstok’n’barrell is also set to return to the races in the Memsie Stakes and he is currently on the second line of betting at a quote of $7.50.

The Lord Tavistock gelding has previously won over 1400 metres in New Zealand, but he has not been seen at the races since he finished a credible third in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 6.

The only other horses that are available at single figure Memsie Stakes odds with Ladbrokes are Chris Waller-trained Weary ($9) and the resuming Hi World ($9).

Weary will be having the second race start of his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign after he finished a very close second behind Burbero in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 8, while Hi World will be return to the races for the first time since he took out the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 18.

The early market mover in Memsie Stakes betting markets has been Team Hawkes-trained Entirely Platinum, who was quickly backed from $13 into $11.

Entirely Platinum has not been seen at the races since he failed to fire in the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) on March 28, but he started his autumn campaign with a second place finish behind Dissident in the Group 1 Orr Stakes (1400m) and he is more than capable of sprinting well fresh.

There has been a sprinkling of early support for Temple Of Boom ($16 into $15), Magicool ($31 into $26), Setinum ($51 into $41) and Rising Romance ($12 into $11), while Stratum Star has remained steady at $12 since he secured a start in the race following the scratching of Fawkner.
