The betting for the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday is unaffected following the scratching of $51 outsider Spoils.

The Clinton McDonald trained Spoils was withdrawn on Thursday morning after failing a vet’s examination, allowing first emergency Sheer Madness to gain a place in the final sixteen horse field.

Sheer Madness from the John Salanitri stable is the outsider of the field at $101 and will jump from barrier seven with Stephen Baster in the saddle.

The Lindsay Park trained Catchy is still holding onto a slender lead at the top of a very congested market order for the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes at $5 with Ladbrokes.com.au just ahead of her stablemate Tulip and the Team Snowden trained Pariah at $6.50.

Also under the $10 mark is Joao Moreira’s mount Property at $7 and another one of the Lindsay Park Team in Formality who is sharing the next line of betting at $7.50 with the Ciaron Maher trained Jukebox.

Even though Catchy has drawn barrier thirteen in the sixteen horse Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes field, the Fastnet Rock filly has been able to hold her spot at the top of the market due mainly to Craig Williams‘ decision to stick with her after the having the choice of at least four other two year olds.

But Williams was disappointed to have drawn the awkward gate and is hoping the luck goes his way during the run.

“It (barrier draw) wasn’t ideal,” Williams told the Herald Sun.

“I would have loved to have drawn eight. Six to eight would have been perfect. Outside the middle is not that nice, but happy with the horse, she worked really well yesterday, she’s in the field and we just need a little bit of luck.”
