Angels Beach is set to contest the 2015 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield tomorrow, but trainer Peter Moody admits that the speedy mare is no certainty to run out a strong 1200 metres.

Angels Beach will be stepping-up to 1200 metres for the first time since she took out the Schweppes Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield on February 5 last year and has raced exclusively at 1100 metres or shorter in her past two racing preparations.

Moody told Racing Ahead that he is very happy with the physical condition of Angels Beach heading into the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m), but he believes that the daughter of Bel Esprit will need to be given a soft ride in order to run out the trip strongly.

“She is going super,” Moody said.

“1200 is her outer limit and there is a question mark there.

“She will have to have to be ridden with a bit more patience tomorrow to run the 1200 metres out, but I think she will present as the winner at some stage of the race.

“Whether she is strong enough at the end of 1200 metres is the question mark.

“She should be able to get a lovely little smother maybe just off them, but we not looking at dragging her back through the field.

“She could take up the running, but it will certainly be at a controlled tempo.”

Angels Beach stamped herself as a sprint to follow when she beat Miracles Of Life to win the Listed Manihi Classic (1050m) at Morphettville on March 29, but she has been unable to replicate that sort of form since.

She started her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a luckless second behind Iconic in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on August 23 and she was beaten as a short-priced favourite in a heat of the 55 Second Challenge (955m) at Moonee Valley on September 26 before she was sent to the spelling paddock after she finished seventh in the Listed Earl Grey Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day.

Angels Beach returned to racing with a close second in the ALH Group Plate (1000m) at Caulfield on May 16 and she finished sixth in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on June 6 before she finished second behind Miss Promiscuity in the Group 3 John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on July 4.

Angels Beach is currently available at 2015 Bletchingly Stakes odds of $4.60 and she is on the second line of betting behind Lord Of The Sky.
