Black Caviar shares the number 1 spot in the World Thoroughbred Rankings

The latest World Thoroughbred Rankings were released overnight to reveal that Black Caviar has retained her number one rating, however, now shares the title with English galloper Frankel.

Black Caviar’s rating of 130 for her Newmarket Handicap win was enough for her to keep the top spot, while Frankel’s six-length victory in the 2000 Guineas catapulted him up the rankings to equal first.

While Black Caviar has won all 13 of her career race starts, the three-year old colt Frankel has already won six out of six.

The Galileo colt has won almost £870,000 over his mere six starts and is attempting to chase down Black Caviar’s current unbeaten record.

A press release published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) states that Frankel was given the top title due to the spectacular fashion in which he won his last race.

“Frankel’s visually stunning front-running success by six lengths at Newmarket was the best performance put up by a classic colt in that race since Zafonic (rating 130) back in 1993,” the IFHA said.

The previously Australian-trained So You Think has moved into third place with a ranking of 126 thanks to his dominant wins in both the Group 3 Mooresbridge Stakes and the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup.

Rocket Man is currently in equal fourth position (125) in the World Thoroughbred Rankings after his Group 1 Lion City Cup and KrisFlyer International Sprint wins.

Despite his many defeats against Black Caviar, Hay List was given a ranking of 122, putting him in equal seventh position.

“Australian sprinter Hay List (AUS) [122] has… gone to a new higher level albeit in defeat to Black Caviar in the Bundaberg Distilling Co. BTC Cup (G1) at Doomben and in winning the Daily Telegraph All-Aged Stakes (G1) at Randwick over 1400m,” the IFHA said.

The next World Thoroughbred Rankings will be released on June 30, 2011.
