Racing fans will get the chance to welcome back queen of the turf Black Caviar at Caulfield on February 2 when the super mare makes her first public appearance since her thrilling Diamond Jubilee Stakes win at Royal Ascot in June.

The world’s best sprinter will have an exhibition gallop between races ahead of her likely comeback race in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 16.

Melbourne Racing Club Chief Executive Alasdair Robertson announced the news today, clearly excited about the prospect of having Caulfield’s own superstar back on show.

“We are so pleased to give the public of Melbourne the opportunity to come and see Black Caviar as she prepares to embark upon her final campaign,” Robertson said.

“Caulfield has been Black Caviar’s home for four years, and was the scene of her first black type win.

“It is most fitting that she be welcomed back to the turf from her memorable victory at Ascot, at Caulfield.”

It is a positive sign the six-year-old is on track to make a successful comeback and be given the opportunity to add to her incredible 22-race undefeated streak and 12 Group 1 wins.

But trainer Peter Moody warned last week that while the great mare is on track for her first-up test in the Lightning, he will not hesitate to retire her if she is not at absolutely 100 per cent.

“She doesn’t need the practice and neither do we,” Moody said.
