With Black Caviar taking the racing world by storm, it is hard not to find comparisons between our current queen of racing and Peter Moody’s young colt Highly Recommended.
While the chances are that Highly Recommended will never command the same amount of awe and respect that the world holds for Black Caviar, you can’t deny the fact that their starts in racing have been very similar.
Black Caviar was catapulted into the limelight after winning the Blue Sapphire Stakes in just her second start.
Prior to that she had won effortlessly up the Flemington straight in her debut run.
Now Moody’s young Highly Recommended will take to the track for the Listed Blue Sapphire this weekend after also breaking his maiden in his first start up the Flemington straight and will be hoping to follow in his older stablemate’s champion footsteps.
While Moody is in no way comparing the colt to his incredibly talented Black Caviar, he has high expectations for him.
The trainer is confident that Highly Recommended has the goods to be his Caulfield Guineas horse in the spring.
“Hey, they can’t all be Black Caviar,” Moody said.
“But this is a really nice colt and at this stage I’d say he’s my Guineas horse.”
Moody feels that Highly Recommended gained a lot from his first run on April 16.
“He’s improved a fair bit off that and I reckon 1200m around a turn will be even more suitable,” Moody said.
Only time will tell whether Highly Recommended could be the one to topple Black Caviar from her throne, but at this point in time he sure is ticking all of the right boxes.
