Balmont Girl is back to best for Railway Stakes

Local mare Balmont Girl has recovered from a bout of heat stress and will line up in top condition in the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Balmont Girl pulled up distressed after running fifth to Real Love in the Group 3 $150,000 Seacorp Starlight-Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on October 31 but trainer Paula Wagga is pleased with her recovery.

“Her work has been good,” Wagg told the West Australian.

“This is her third run, which is usually her best.

“It was a hot day for the Asian Beau and she pulled up with some heat stress.”

Balmont Girl has been out of the winner’s list since winning the 2014 Asian Beau Stakes twelve months before running second to Elite Belle in last year’s Railway Stakes.

At her next run Balmont Girl was well beaten when tenth to the Chris Waller trained Moriarty in the Group 1 $500,000 TAB Touch – Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot.

But the then four year old mare regained her form with a second to Real Love in the Listed $100,000 Perth Ice Works W.A. St Leger (2100m) at Ascot.

The Railway Stakes will be Balmont Girl’s third run back this campaign and prior to her unplaced run in the Asian Beau Stakes was a first up fourth to Black Heart Bart in the Group 3 $150,000 Northerly Stakes (1400m) at Ascot in Perth on October 21.

Shaun O’Donnell has been aboard Balmont Girl for the majority of her twenty-seven starts, including five visits to the winner’s stall, and will be able to give her a nice run just off the pace from barrier three.

Perth’s glamour mare Delicacy heads the market order at $4.20 ahead of the well performed Black Heart Bart and Real Love at $5 and the Chris Waller trained Good Project at $7.50.
