Melbourne trainer Ciaron Maher was on hand at Eagle Farm this morning to oversee Azkadellia gallop with a stablemate and was happy with her work and way that she pulled up.

Maher gave Azkaadellia the all clear to take on the fillies and mares in the last Group 1 of the 2015 – 2016 racing season and expects her to bounce back from her last start defeat as favourite when tenth to Under The Louvre in the Group 1 $1.5m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.

“She will (run). She worked with a stablemate this morning on the course proper. She was really enthusiastic and her action looked in great order and I was happy with the way she pulled up,” Maher told RSN’s Racing Ahead.

“She was nice and firm on the bridle and looked real enthusiastic in doing it.”

“Hopefully she should bounce back to form in what she has shown me.”

Nick Hall has been booked to ride the Shinko King mare in the Tattersall’s Club Tiara and he will be the fifth jockey to partner her in seven starts.

“Nick was going to ride her in the Doomben 10000, but he was suspended leading up to that so he gets his chance and I think Nick’s riding style will really suit her,” Maher said.

The Tattersall’s Club Tiara will be Hall’s second attempt to partner the four year old mare but after being booked to ride her in the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 28, was suspended for careless riding and replaced by Mark Zahra who rode her into second place behind Music Magnate.

Hall replaces Damien Oliver who was aboard Azkadellia in the Stradbroke Handicap as well as her win in the Group 1 $1m The Coolmore Legacy Stakes (Queen Of The Turf Stakes) (1600m) at Randwick on day two of ‘The Championships’ on April 9 while Brett Prebble rode her into second placing behind Peeping in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 12 and Glen Boss was in the saddle when third to Winx in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 2.

Maher has no particular preferences in what barrier Azkadellia draws on Wednesday when the final field is declared and said that she will settle back in the field if she draws an inside gate or an outside one.

“It doesn’t really matter as long as where the track is racing best she makes a path towards there because she generally gets back in her races and you can basically come wherever you need to,” Maher said.

“Barriers are no real concerns, she will probably end up in the same position anyway.”

“I think the track is in great order providing you find the right path on race day.”
