Trainer Mark Kavanagh is starting to get excited after racing’s new super star Atlantic Jewel hardly raised a sweat in scoring her ninth straight win in the Group 2 $220,000 Top Cut Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley today.

Jockey Michael Rodd was only required to steer the undefeated Atlantic Jewel as she treated the other five runners with total contempt as she completed nothing more than easy track gallop.

“That was just a little course proper gallop, wasn’t it, a mile home three” Kavanagh said.

“It’s starting to build now, I’m really excited now.”

Rodd had Atlantic Jewel quickly on the bit and let Oasis Bloom take up the running, letting the super mare idol along in fourth spot.

Coming to the home turn Rodd let her cruise up to the leaders and once heads were turned for home it was all over.

Rode let $1.06 favourite cruise to the line to win untouched by two and a half lengths from Oasis Bloom ($21) and Oriental Ruby ($41).

Atlantic Jewel was having her second run back from a sixteen month break due to a tendon injury and made today’s win look just as easy as two weeks ago when she won first up in the Group 1 $350,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Kavanagh is considering backing up Atlantic in the Group 1 $400,000 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield next week as she works her way towards the Group 1 $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 26.

“She’s had a track gallop on the course proper today and nothing is out of the question at this stage,” Kavanagh said responding to the question if Atlantic Jewel will run next week.

Rodd hardly raised a sweat either and it was easy to see the huge smile on his face as they cruised towards the winning post.

“Her fitness has definitely come on and most people knew that that was going to be the case today the way she was going to win like that,” Rodd said.

“She had a soft run and it was only just a sprint home.”

Atlantic Jewel’s win today in the Stocks Stakes guarantees that she remains at the top of the Cox Plate market order at $2.50 with Puissance De Lune the second pick at $9.
