Sydney filly Arabian Gold has elevated herself to the head of the Queensland Oaks market order after a dominant win in the Group 2 $175,000 XXXX Gold The Roses (2000m) at Doomben today.
But even though Arabian Gold was able to win her third race on the trot by overpowering the other fillies, trainer David Vandyke still hasn’t locked in a start in the Group 1 $400,000 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm in two weeks.
“I will see how she recovers from today,” Vandyke said.
Arabian Gold raced through the Sydney Autumn Carnival and Vandyke decided on a Brisbane campaign after the Dubawi filly scored twice at Group 3 level over 2000m at Randwick in the $200,000 TAB Adrian Knox Stakes on April 2 and the $150,000 Johnnie Walker Frank Packer Plate on April 26.
“This is her fourth carnival in a row and she has performed at stakes level. It was an outstanding win today, she was nice and relaxed before the race in the enclosure and it was one of the greatest reliefs I’ve had in racing because on paper I couldn’t see her getting beat,” Vandyke said.
Blake Shinn scored his second win Arabian Gold ($2.10 favourite) and gave her a beautiful run midfield before circling the field on the home turn to runaway to score a very dominant win over Tinto ($13) and Tornado Miss ($61) who fought on well after setting a strong tempo.
Shinn is having another good day in the saddle after winning earlier in the day on the Trevor Bailey trainer Tales Of Fashion in the Listed $100,000 Gallopers Sports Club Lancaster Stakes (1200m).
