Amelie’s Star has been backed into 2017 Doomben Cup odds of $7.50 and she has been the clear market mover in betting for the Group 1 event at Doomben on Saturday.

Amelie’s Star looked like a star in the making when she won the 2015 edition of the Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) in dominant fashion, but injury meant that she was forced out of racing for well over 12 months.

She returned to the races with a credible fourth behind Royal Rumble at Morphettville on April 8 and she was second at Flemington on Anzac Day before she returned to winning form with very soft victory in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) on May 6.

Amelie’s Star was available at 2017 Doomben Cup odds of $13 earlier in the week, but there has been consistent money for the daughter of Testa Rossa and she is now on the third line of betting.

While Amelie’s Star has been the best-backed runner in the 2017 Doomben Cup betting market with Ladbrokes, It’s Somewhat remains a narrow favourite at a quote of $4.20.

It’s Somewhat has been in simply outstanding form this preparation and he heads into the Doomben Cup on the back of wins in the Group 3 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 11, the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 1 and the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 6.

Fighting It’s Somewhat in the battle for favouritism is Australian Bloodstock-owned Articus, who will be returning to Group 1 level for the first time since he failed to fire in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) last year.

Articus made a flat return to racing in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on April 15, but he stamped himself as a genuine Doomben Cup contender when he claimed his maiden Australian race win at Flemington on May 6.

The only other horses available at single-figure Doomben Cup odds are Group 1 winning mare Single Gaze ($9), the consistent Maurus ($9.50) and Queen Elizabeth Stakes placegetter Sense Of Occasion ($4.20).

There has been a sprinkling of support for Astronomos ($41 into $31), while the likes of Emphasis ($101 out to $126), Jessy Belle ($41 out to $51), Sound Proposition ($51 out to $81) and Auvray ($51 out to $91) have all been on the drift.
