Queensland Racing expert Nathan Exelby has Scissor Kick on top of his 2015 Doomben 10,000 tips and he believes that the Group 1 event is the right race for the talented three-year-old.

Scissor Kick was well supported in the lead-up to the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) after he finished a strong fourth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 18, but he did not have a great deal of luck and could finish no better than fifth.

Exelby told RSN that he expects Scissor Kick to get a better run into the 2015 Doomben 10,000 with Glen Boss in the saddle and he believes the Redoute’s Choice colt to be better suited over the 1350 metres of the Group 1 event this weekend.

“I thought he didn’t have the best of luck in the BTC Cup,” Exelby said.

“He was slow out, driven up early and then he got shuffled back on the turn.

“He made reasonable ground in the run to the line, but I think that 1350 suits better and it is a key jockey change here.

“Glen Boss will sort the mount out, Tye Angland has just had no luck on this horse for most of the season.

“Perhaps the jockey change will go the trick for him and I think that the ability is there and I think that this is the right race for him.”

While Exelby is keen on the chances of Scissor Kick, he is also fancies the chances of Our Boy Malachi and Generalife and he expects both to give the Doomben 10,000 a real shake tomorrow.

Srikandi is currently on top of 2015 Doomben 10,000 betting markets at a quote of $5.50 after she missed the start in the BTC Cup, but Exelby believes the effect of her slow start has been overstated and he is happy to take her on at her current quote.

“I have a lot of respect for Generalife based on that All Aged Stakes run and I think that Our Boy Malachi will also improve having had that first hit-out at Group 1 level,” Exelby said.

“She did bomb the start, but she then did get a nice run through the field and she ran the race opposite to how she normally does.

“It is difficult to get a guide on that particular run, but I still think she has to go to a new level to win this race and I am working around her.”

Scissor Kick is currently available at 2015 Doomben 10,000 odds of $7.50 and she is on the third line of betting behind Srikandi ($5.50) and Generalife ($6.50).
