May’s Dream and Girl In Flight are the 2014 Australasian Oaks tips of Timeform Senior Handicapper Adam Blencowe and he believes that both fillies represent value at their current quotes for the Group 1 event at Morphettville tomorrow.
Girl In Flight stamped herself as the favourite for the 2014 Australasian Oaks with an impressive win in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 12, but Blencowe told RSN this morning that he was equally impressed with the run of May’s Dream, who carried the top weight of 57 kilograms.
“I think that the top two are commanding the market,” Blencowe said.
“I think that they are less than they should be and both ran really well last time.
“Girl In Flight obviously got the verdict there, but May’s Dream had to give her weight there and the figures returned were actually identical; the margin matched the weight difference.
“At $4 and $4.40, I think that they both should be a shorter than that; I have them at $2.60 and $2.90 and I think that they will both firm a little.”
Girl In Flight produced the best performance of her career to date in the 2014 Schweppervescence Stakes, but May’s Dream has previously produced higher rating performances after finishing second in both the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.
Blencowe believes that May’s Dream can return to the form that saw her be competitive at the highest level of racing in Melbourne and because of this is giving the New Approach filly an edge over Girl In Flight in the 2014 Australasian Oaks this weekend.
“May’s Dream is probably the one,” Blencowe said.
“They ran six pounds clear of anything that was behind and May’s Dream has that 108 behind her from the Wakeful there.
“I think that she is the one that has room to move on her figure and she will probably go towards her Wakeful figure here.
“If she does that she is a good chance and I would be surprised if she didn’t kick off favourite.”
Girl In Flight ($4) remains a narrow favourite in 2014 Australasian Oaks betting markets from May’s Dream ($4.20), while there has been a sprinkling of support for talented filly Scratchy Bottom ($6.50) and David Hayes-trained Star Fashion ($11).
