Melbourne Cup sweeps are one of the most exciting aspects of ‘Cup Day’ and in the 2013 edition of the race it doesn’t really matter who you draw – just about every horse in the field has a chance to give you a positive result!

In saying that, there are still horses in the 2013 Melbourne Cup field that you will be jumping up and down if you draw and others that you wish you could throw back in the hat.

2013 Melbourne Cup Sweep – Horses To Draw

6. Fiorente

Fiorente is the 2013 Melbourne Cup betting favourite for a reason and he has had an almost flawless preparation for ‘the race that stops a nation’.

The Monsun entire is the perfect horse to draw in Melbourne Cup sweepstakes as, even if he doesn’t win the race, he is an excellent chance to finish in the placings as he has missed the top three in just two of his six starts since arriving in Australia.

8. Dandino

There are question marks over whether the Dansili entire can run out a strong 3200 metres but there has been plenty of support for the Caulfield Cup runner-up in the past 24 hours.

Dandino has one of the best place percentages in the entire field and he has missed the top three in just one of his last ten career starts.

22. Dear Demi

Dear Demi is yet to record a race win during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival but has recorded strong results at Group 1 level in the Underwood Stakes (1800m), Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Mackinnon Stakes (2000m).

The Dehere mare may not have the class to win the Melbourne Cup but is sure to play a part in the finish and has an excellent chance of finishing in the top three; giving people that selected her in Melbourne Cup sweeps a positive result.

23. Tres Blue

Gai Waterhouse may not have ever won a Melbourne Cup but she has gone close on a number of occasions; finishing second with Te Akau Nick in 1993, Nothin’ Leica Dane in 1995 and Fiorente in 2012.

Tres Blue will carry only 51 kilos in the Melbourne Cup, which will give him every opportunity to put himself in the race and even make a move early if he is forced to take up the running from his outside gate.

2013 Melbourne Cup Sweep – Horses to Avoid

9. Ethiopia

Ethiopia finished at the tail of the field after suffering an injury during the running of the 2012 Melbourne Cup and his form this campaign has been less than stellar.

The Helenus gelding has not won a race since his memorable victory in the 2012 Australian Derby and he has failed to fire in the Underwood Stakes, Caulfield Cup and Lexus Stakes.

Ethiopia is one galloper that you should be looking to avoid at all costs in 2013 Melbourne Cup sweepstakes.

24. Ruscello

Ruscello only earnt a start in the 2013 Melbourne Cup after winning the Lexus Stakes on Victoria Derby Day and the Melbourne Cup is clearly an afterthought for the Cape Cross gelding who will be having his third start in Australia.

The five-year-old will be leading a long way from home but it is very difficult to see him still being amongst the leaders when the field heads towards the finish for the second time.

11. Mourayan

This tough stayer has raced well in the Melbourne Cup previously, finishing eight in the 2012 edition of the race, and won the Sydney Cup in the autumn but has failed to return to his best form this preparation.

He has produced three uninspiring runs in the Makybe Diva Stakes, The Metropolitan and Mackinnon Stakes and looks as though he is past his best; with a post-racing career as a dressage horse already lined up for the veteran stayer.
