The 2013 Melbourne Cup field is set in stone; with the decision of OTI Racing to include Ruscello in the final acceptances keeping Bart Cummings-trained Precedence out of $6 million Group 1 event.

Western Australian galloper Mr Moet and the Chris Waller-trained duo of Kelinni and Moriarty were all above Precedence in the 2013 Melbourne Cup order of entry but have were not included in the final acceptances and the veteran stayer looked as though he was set to earn a fairy tale start in the field before connections of Ruscello changed their original plan not to run the four-year-old in ‘the race that stops a nation’.

Co-trainer James Cummings said that both he and his grandfather were disappointed that Precedence missed a start in the 2013 Melbourne Cup field but are hoping that the eight-year-old will help them overcome that disappointment by winning the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day.

“I’ve got no comment on Precedence missing out, but let’s just say Bart has his views on the matter,” Cummings said.

“He’s here (in Melbourne) so you can go and see how disappointed he is.

“He’ll now go around in the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth Stakes  which has a $100,000 bonus for being balloted out of the Cup.

“It’s a really good incentive from the race club, because it stops trainers from butchering their horses on the Saturday (before the Cup), and he’ll be a very good chance in the race.”

While Bart Cummings will be without a runner, Lloyd Williams is set to have an historic six Melbourne Cup runners; with Green Moon, Sea Moon, Masked Marvel, Seville, Mourayan and Fawkner all included in the final field.

Leading Sydney trainers Chris Waller and Gai Waterhouse will also have multiple runners in the 2013 Melbourne Cup field, as they search for their first win in the race, with Waller represented by Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur and imported stayer Foreteller, while Waterhouse’s chances rest with last year’s runner-up Fiorente and French stayer Tres Blue.

The 2013 Melbourne Cup field will have a heavy international flavour and the European-trained stayers that have been preparing at the International Equine Centre at Werribee are sure to play a key role in proceedings.

2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden, former runner-up Red Cadeaux and Luca Cumani-trained Mount Athos will be returning to the race, while Michael Moroney-trained Voleuse De Coeurs, Goodwood Cup winner Brown Panther, French stayer Verema and Godolphin hopeful Royal Empire will be making their Australian racing debuts.

The Caulfield Cup is always a key lead-up race to the Melbourne Cup and the 2013 edition of the race will be no different with the three placegetters, Fawkner, Dandino and Dear Demi, all backing up at Flemington on Tuesday.

Rounding out the 2013 Melbourne Cup field are Australian Cup winner Super Cool, Pat Carey-trained Ethiopia, Geelong Cup winner Ibicenco and Willie Mullins-trained Simenon.

Now that the 2013 Melbourne Cup field has been confirmed, the search for the winner can begin and you can find all the information that you need in the 2013 Melbourne Cup form guide.
