News Alert Debuts For Pride Stable

News Alert will have his first run for new trainer Joe Pride this Saturday since joining the stable three months ago.

The seven-year-old gelding was transferred to Pride after spending the majority of his racing career with Con Karakatsanis at Rosehill.

News Alert will have his debut run for Pride in the 1,100 metre Welter at Canterbury this weekend.

Pride is pleased with the late addition of The Galaxy winner Atomic Force to the field, which decreases News Alert’s weight to just 56 kilograms after apprentice jockey Adam Hyeronimus makes his three kilogram claim.

“Now News Alert is much better weighted than he might have been and he’s a realistic chance,” he said.

News Alert has had three trials under Pride’s watch, with his best result being a second at Warwick Farm.

“He’s had three trials and has been here about three months,” Pride said.

“I like him. He’s a good quality horse, his record tells you that and he likes the sting out of the track.

“I’ve also looked through his record and he’s a great weight carrier.”

Latin News has won eight of his 33 career starts and has earned close to $540,000 in prize money.
