New World Ranking For Black Caviar

She may not be ready to hit the track again just yet but Black Caviar has already claimed a win in 2012.

The unbeaten Aussie super mare has set a new record in the World Thoroughbred Rankings released over night.

The Peter Moody trained runner hit a rating of 132, two better than her previous best achievement in the rankings.

Overall she’s been deemed the second best horse in the world with the unbeaten Frankel continuing to hold top position on a rating of 136 from his nine career starts.

Importantly for Black Caviar though she now becomes the highest ever rated mare in her own right after previously sharing the mark with Goldikova.

This is in addition to extending her record as the highest ever rated sprinter.

Chief handicapper with Racing Victoria, Greg Carpenter, is part of the WTR group and he said the two point rise comes from a re-evaluation of her Newmarket Handicap victory.

“The WTR committee finalised her ranking at 132, which is a great result for Black Caviar and her connections and Australian racing,” Carpenter said.

“She is by far and away the highest rated sprinter the previous highest mark was 125 and now she exceeds the mark of Goldikova (130) as the highest ever ranked mare. It’s a remarkable feat.”

Black Caviar wasn’t the only Australian horse to perform well either with a host of others towards the top of the list.

Sepoy took a mark of 123 thanks to his open age wins in the Manikato States and Caulfield Sprint.

Atlantic Jewel capped off her meteoric rise to fame with a rating of 121 earned by her seven length domination of the Wakeful Stakes with 58kgs on her back.

All up 47 Aussie horses rated a mention in the list including Hay List on 122, More Joyous and Whobegotyou on 120, Helmet on 119 and Manawanui on 118.
