Trainer John O'Shea's new recruit Deer Valley

Sydney trainer John O’Shea is confident of a bold showing by his new stable recruit, 5 year old mare Deer Valley (Lonhro (AUS) – Danislew (AUS) Danehill) in this Saturday’s Group 3 Golden Pendant at Rosehill.

Deer Valley arrived at O’Shea’s last month after racing in Queensland under the care of Deagon trainer Steele Ryan where at her last start (July 9) she finished 6th, 2.5 lengths behind Essington in the Listed Ascot Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Before her campaign in Queensland, Deer Valley had previously tasted Black Type success back in 2009 when taking out the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick defeating Melito and Hurtle Myrtle when trained by Chris Waller.

O’Shea said “She’s very low maintenance and enjoyed the time since she has arrived, we are very happy with her. Her trial last week was excellent and she put in a lovely piece of work this morning (Thursday) so she’ll run well”.

OShea went on to say that “we are under no illusions as to the enormity of the task but on the strength of her work and her trial she is going to be very competitive”.

The Golden Pendant for Fillies and Mares is a new race added by the Australian Turf Club has Group 3 status and carries $250,000 in prize money.
