Nayeli to improve in Inglis 3yo Guineas

Trainer Gai Waterhouse is expecting a noticeable improvement from Nayeli when she lines up in the $400,000 Inglis 3yo Guineas (1400m) at Scone’s standalone meeting on Saturday.

Nayeli kicked off this campaign with a surprise win at $61 in the Listed $125,000 Xirrus Fireball Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on March 7 but has been well beaten at her two next starts.

The More Than Ready filly was always near the tail of the field when ninth of nine in the Group 3 $200,000 Dilmah Tea P J Bell Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 6 followed by a tenth of eleven after racing on the pace in the Group 3 $150,000 Kari J H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 18.

Waterhouse then sent Nayeli back to the barrier trials and the filly impressed with one and a half length win in a 1050m Randwick trial on May 8 and ‘The Lady Trainer’ expects her to be in the finish on the weekend.

“She is very good and has really good winning chance in this,” Waterhouse told Racing Ahead.

“Her trial last week was absolutely outstanding. She went like a rocket.”

“She’s a filly that you have to space her runs a little bit. She chooses her days, but I think her day will be tomorrow.”

“She is really switched on and she is going great and she looks a picture, a very big daughter of More Than Ready.”

While Tommy Berry rode Nayeli in her barrier trial win, Joshua Parr has been called up to take the mount in the Guineas with Berry to ride Botany Bay for Team Hawkes.

Nayeli is a market mover at Ladbrokes.com.au and has firmed in from $12 to be a $9.50 chance in the Inglis 3yo Guineas.

The Bede Murray trained Sure And Fast is the current $3.90 favourite ahead of Ygritte at $5.50 with Botany Bay and Loved Up sharing the next line of betting at $9.

Sure And Fast has earned his spot at the top of the market order after winning twice from his last three starts and was sent out the $5.50 equal favourite last start before winning the $300,000 Provincial Championship Final (1400m) at Randwick on the second day of ‘The Championships’.

Second favourite Ygritte from the Gerald Ryan stable is also racing in fine style with a win in the Listed $150,000 Pluim Gosford Guineas (1200m) at Gosford on April 2 followed by a third to Federal in the Listed $150,000 McGrath Estate Agents South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Randwick on April 11.
