My Ambivalent Still On Track for Melbourne Cup Berth

Suffering a nasty stone bruise which ruled her out of the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on October 18th, classy British raider My Ambivalent is a step closer to contesting the 2014 Melbourne Cup after being passed fit by Racing Victoria vets on Tuesday morning.

Securing a commendable race record of five wins and a further six minor places from her 16 competitive appearances on course so far, My Ambivalent has returned to racing in slick form this time in, performing well in events in Ireland, Britain and the Middle-East so-far.

Missing two days of work in the lead-up to the Caulfield Cup, the Authorized mare has not missed a single hit-out leading into this year’s edition of the Race That Stops a Nation, highlighted by a comfortable gallop this morning.

Understandably pleased with the five-year-old’s injury clearing, David Eustace, assistant to trainer Roger Varian confirmed My Ambivalent will have to pass one final check on Thursday to ensure a place in the 2014 Melbourne Cup.

“She’s fine,” Eustace told the Herald Sun.

“She had one problem 10-12 days ago and it’s been fine since.

“The problem is as common as the cold.”

Finishing outside the places just once in an impressive 2013 racing calendar, My Ambivalent finished second in the Group 2 Middleton Stakes (2092m) first-up and continued to build in form and class on her way to a maiden victory at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes (2011m) most notably at the Curragh in June.

Having steadily built to the task over four starts this year, the mare out of Darrery finished third in the Group 2 Dubai Sheema Classic (2410m) first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Middleton Stakes on May 15th.

Running third in the Group 1 Coronation Cup (2423m) and fourth in the Pretty Polly Stakes most recently, My Ambivalent is currently available at generous odds of $41 for success in the 2014 Melbourne Cup with Ladbrokes Australia.
