Sydney sprinter Music Magnate is on track for back to back wins in the Doomben 10000 with a comfortable all the way win in the Group 2 $200,000 Ellyce Galvin Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker was relieved to see Music Magnate back in the winner’s list after he failed to handle the heavy tracks during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and confirmed that the five year old is back on track for the Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m) at Doomben on May 13.
“I’m thrilled to see Music Magnate go so well and he’s back on track now,” Baker said.
“The tracks in Sydney have been too wet for him but it’s all systems go now in Brisbane and he’ll run next in the Doomben 10,000 in a fortnight.”
Music Magnate’s Autumn Carnival kicked off in fine style with a win on a good track in the Group 2 $200,000 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on January 28 but then failed to handle the wet conditions for the remainder of the carnival.
Music Magnate missed a place when fifth to Le Romain in the Group 1 $500,000 BMW Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on March 4 and was never in contention when twelfth to Russian Revolution in the Group 1 $700,000 Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 18.
Baker is yet to confirm if Music Magnate will line up in the Group 1 $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 10 but will nominate the gelding for the Winter Carnival flagship feature and see what weight he is given.
“I’m just going to take things one step at a time but he’ll be nominated for the Stradbroke,” Baker said.
Music Magnate is a solid $6 second favourite for the Doomben 10000 behind the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Russian Revolution who heads the market order at $4.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Also in contention for the Doomben 10000 at $7 if the Canberra sprinter Fell Swoop ahead of Malaguerra and Russian Revolution’s stablemate Redzel at $9.
