Munce’s Mares To Make Impact At Newcastle

Essence Of Success

Essence Of Success might be suited better to the Newcastle track

Chris Munce continues to rack up the frequent flyer miles early in the spring, this time it’s Newcastle where he picks up a handy book of rides and some genuine winning chances.

His two main ones are in the main events as well, the Tibbie stakes and the Newcastle Cup.

Both horses are trained by Gai Waterhouse who Munce is keen to build a relationship with especially given the main events in Sydney and Melbourne are just around the corner.

Sweetest Melody and Essence Of Success are the two he’ll be climbing aboard after partnering both horses last start in Wyong as well.

“They both raced pretty well the other day at Wyong…hopefully on the bigger roomier Newcastle track Essence Of Success might be suited a bit better there,” he said.

Sweetest Melody is the Tibbie Stakes contender and she goes in defending a three race winning streak.

“She’s in good form no doubt, mares that are in good form they tend to hold it,” he said.

“Wyong suited her because she was up on the bunny and able to hold her spot.

“There’s probably going to be a bit more pressure up here than there was at  Wyong.”

Essence Of Success had a far tougher time of it in Wyong not finding a lot of luck however her natural ability is unquestioned.

“She got back in the ruck a little bit and never really travelled comfortably at all,” he said.

“If she goes back and shows a bit of speed the start before she’ll be ok.

“I’ve just got to come out a little bit open minded with her and let her tell me where she wants to be.”
