Chris Munce has already trained a number of winners during his brief training career to date, but he is hopeful that Wicked Intent can deliver him a maiden Group win in the 2015 BRC Sires Produce Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.

Wicked Intent was one of the star two-year-olds during the summer period in Queensland and he returned to racing with a brave second place finish behind Blueberry Hill in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 9.

The 2015 BRC Sires Produce Stakes chances of Wicked Intent took a hit when he was allocated barrier 14 for the $250,000 event, but Munce told Racing Ahead that the Wicked Style colt has the early speed to take up a position in the early stages of the BRC Sires Produce Stakes and he said that he would be thrilled if the two-year-old is able to deliver him the biggest victory of his training career to date.

“He went terrific,” Munce said.

“He drew awkward and he has again there on Saturday, but he is a horse with a bit of speed and hopefully he can get a nice enough run from his draw.

“I’m sure that he will put his all in.

“He seems to be going well and he is doing everything right.

“The horses that I have run in anything sort of Group race have all been very competitive and probably a bit unlucky on a couple of occasions, so it would be good if he could crack it there on Saturday.”

Wicked Intent has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) that will be held at Doomben on June 6 and Munce confirmed that there is no reason the colt would not make his Group 1 debut if he performs strongly in the 2015 Sires Produce Stakes, while the talented two-year-old is also likely to head to either Sydney or Melbourne for a 2015 Spring Racing Carnival.

“If he runs as well as I hope he will and he comes through it unscathed then there is no reason not to,” Munce said.

“If he happens to fail and he doesn’t perform up to expectations then we will have to reassess things and look at where we go after that.”

Wicked Intent is currently available at 2015 Sires Produce Stakes odds of $5 and along with Payroll he is on the second line of betting behind Champagne Classic winner Blueberry Hill ($4.80).
