Jockey Chris Munce will ride Dowager Queen

Top Queensland jockey Chris Munce is boasting a growing book of horses as his stint riding in the Sydney spring carnival continues.

Munce already has an association with a good group of horses but those ranks are set to be bolstered further with the arrival of Dowager Queen from New Zealand.

The three year old filly is trained by Graeme Rogerson who has a fantastic assembly of horses heading to Australia, all of which are considered potential Group 1 winners.

Dowager Queen has run twice in Australia already, both times in the Brisbane Winter Carnival where she ran on strongly for fourth in races not ideally suited to her.

She comes here on the back of a tremendous first up win in New Zealand, one which has given Munce plenty of confidence.

Her first run of the Aussie spring will be this weekend in the Tea Rose Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

“I’m sure she’s improved since Brisbane,” Munce said.

“Form-wise and rating-wise she has jumped out of the ground. Her first-up win was unbelievable.”

No set program has been picked out for the horse however such is Rogerson’s opinion of the horse that she’s still a part of the Cox Plate nominations.

In other jockey news one horse Munce won’t be getting a shot at is Smart Missile after his Golden Rose failure.

Despite being a beaten favourite and suffering his first loss of his career, jockey Glen Boss won’t be thrown off the horse as some had expected.

He won’t get off completely free though with trainer Anthony Cummings insisting on meeting with Boss sometime this week in a move he hopes will ‘clear the air’ after victory was thrown away with a wayward final furlong.
