Mr Moneybags Gerald Ryan Spends Big Again

Gerald Ryan has continued to make his mark as a big spender after another seven figure purchase at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale at Newmarket.

Ryan will cough up $1 million for the three-quarter sister to his former top miler Rothesay.

In addition to Rothesay, Ryan also trained full sister Fast Shanti and said his most recent purchase from Emirates Park Stud was the best yearling that dam Schiaparelli had produced.

“I bought Rothesay as a yearling, the half-sister by Commands [La Parisienne] and train the three quarter sister [Fast Shanti] from last year and I reckon she’s the best of the lot of them,” Ryan said.

“As a type at the same age at the sales, she’s the best of them.

“Sound, correct, great pedigree.”

Three years ago the bold move paid off for Ryan after he spent big money to secure what he thought was the best horse of the sale, Melito.

He says the filly he just bought looks just as good as the dual Group 1 winner, albeit early in the piece.

“I came to the sales a couple of years ago to buy the best filly in the sale and that was Melito,” he said.

“There are a lot of nice fillies at this sale and this one was right up there with them.

“She’s a different horse to Melito but she oozes quality.”

Ryan bought the most expensive horse last year as well when he picked up Godspeed by Redoute’s Choice for a massive $1.9 million
